SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- After scoring 17 points and producing a career-high 11 assists during the Cal Poly men’s basketball program’s 91-81 home victory versus Pepperdine (Dec. 2), junior guard Donovan Fields has been named Coca-Cola Cal Poly Student-Athlete of the Week.
Fields, ranked first among more than 4,000 NCAA Division I players this season with a 1.000 (25-for-25) percent free throw mark, also produced three steals versus the Waves.
His 11-assist total marked the highest amount by a player in 258 games under ninth-year head coach Joe Callero and were five shy of matching the Cal Poly program record.
One of a season-high five players in double-digit scoring figures against Pepperdine, Fields currently ranks second among Big West Conference players with 5.4 assists per game, fourth with 16.6 points per game and fifth with a 50.0 (16-for-32) percent three-point mark.
Cal Poly (4-4), which ranks 28th among 351 Division I programs with a 41.3 (83-for-201) percent three-point mark, hosts Fresno State on Saturday, Dec. 9. Tip time inside Mott Athletics Center is 7 p.m.
