Cal Poly Falls to Nebraska 22-3 in Opener of Saturday Doubleheader

LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska send 16 batters to the plate in the sixth inning and erupted for 13 runs en route to a 22-3 victory over Cal Poly in the first game of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Haymarket Park.

Second game of the twinbill will start at 2:35 p.m. PST.

Cal Poly scored single runs in the first, sixth and seventh innings.

Tate Samuelson singled to knock in the run in the first, Dylan Doherty's groundout cashed in the run in the sixth and an error allowed the run to score in the seventh.

Cal Poly collected 15 hits, but stranded 15 runners on the basepaths and hit into three double plays.

Alex McKenna and Bradlee Beesley (pictured above) each had three hits for the Mustangs and John Mackay and Colby Barrick each added two hits.

Daren Nelson (2-1) took the loss and Nate Fisher (1-2) earned the run. Cal Poly used six pitchers and they combined to issue a dozen walks.
