Cal Poly Slips to 6th in Unfinished Second Round of The Farms Invitational


RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. — Tied for second place after the first round of play, the Cal Poly men's golf team slipped to sixth place during the uncompleted second round of The Farms Invitational on Monday at The Farms Golf Club.

With some golfers having as many as five holes to complete, Coach Scott Cartwright's Mustangs are 13 over par after finishing the first round with a one-over-par 289.

San Francisco leads the 11-team event at seven over par, followed by UCLA at eight over par. San Diego, Santa Clara and UC Riverside share third place at nine over par.

All golfers will return to the course Tuesday at 8:15 a.m. to complete the second round of play. The same groupings will continue with the final round.

Zack Overstreet of Seattle, the first-round leader following a 65, is at four under par with two holes to play. Otto Vanhatalo of San Diego State and Michiel Eyre of Santa Clara share second place at three under par, also with two holes to finish the second round.

Cal Poly's Jimmy Castles (pictured above) is tied for sixth place with three other golfers at even par. Castles carded a 74 in the opening round.

Sage Casaga, who opened with a 68 and was in second place after the first round, is tied for 10th place at one over par with one more hole to play.

Nick Engelhardt is tied for 29th place at five over par after carding an opening-round 72 while Grady Smith, who opened with a 75, is tied for 32nd place at seven over par. Mitch Martin rounds out Cal Poly scoring with a 78 in the opening round and tied for 53rd place at 11 over par.

Competing as individuals, Thomas Lehman posted a 75 and is tied for 48th place at 10 over par with four holes to play while Tanner Podres, who opened with a 77, is tied for 59th at 13 over par with two holes to finish.
