Another School Record Broken as Competition Wraps Up

LONG BEACH- Calif.- The 2012 Arena Invitational wrapped up in Long Beach, Calif. with another school record set and another NCAA B cut qualifier on the last day of competition.

 In the men's 1650 yard freestyle, freshman Ian Sinclair advanced to the championship finals and finished fourth place (15:27.86) and an NCAA B cut.  He was followed in by teammate and fellow freshman, Sonny Fierro at 15:32.58 who finished in fifth place.  Junior Adrian Brynnel finshed in 13th place (15:48.30) and freshman Patrick Kezer came in 15th (15:49.70).

A second school record was broken by senior Rachel O'Brien, this time in the women's 200 yard butterfly.  Her time, 1:59.50, takes more than a second off the old record set by Gloria Benefield in 2008.  O'Brien advanced to the championship final where she finished in fifth place.

Senior Angie Haven advanced to the Championship Finals in the 200 yard breaststroke.  Haven finished the race in seventh place (2:18.03).  For the men, Jimmy Deiparine advanced to the consolation finals in the 200 yard breaststroke and finished 14th (2:06.44).

In the 200 yard backstroke, Cal Poly swimmers advanced to the consolation finals in both men's and women's.  Paolo Stanchi finished in 12th place and on the women's side, Katrina Anderson finished the race in 15th place (2:01.85). 

Mackey Hopen advanced to the consolation final in the 100 yard butterfly where he finished 15th (45.96).   Luca Casimiro also advanced to the consolation final and he finished 13th (1:51.82).

In the 400 yard relays, the men touched the wall in eighth place (3:03.02) with the women finishing tenth (3:28.38.)

The Cal Poly men finished the weekend in seventh place with the women in tenth place.
