Cal Poly Sweeps Pacific, Seven Individual Mustangs Secure Two Victories

STOCKTON, Calif. – The Cal Poly swimming program used 19 individual event victories (10 from the women's side and nine from the men) to fuel a pair of victories over Pacific on Saturday afternoon at the University of the Pacific's Chris Kjeldsen Pool. The Mustang men collected a 156-103 victory, while the women's side used a 169-93 win to cement the dual-meet sweep of the Tigers.

The Mustang women improved to 2-2 in dual meets, while the men's side is now 2-1 in head-to-head matchups this season.

Cal Poly's Sage Speak continued to shine during her sophomore season after recording a pair of event wins in both the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.70) and 200 breast (2:20.22) which netted 18 points towards the women's overall total.

Sophomore Bonnie Diamond also delivered two individual victories, including the 200-yard IM (2:08.88) and 500-yard freestyle (5:06.92) and senior Allison de Peralta tallied a pair of event wins in both the 100-yard backstroke (58.22) and 200 back (2:07.32), which secured 36 points for the Cal Poly women's side.

Cal Poly senior Alisha Bender (pictured) amassed a pair of individual wins in both the 100-yard freestyle (52.12) and 200 free (1:53.05) adding 18 more points to the Mustang team victory.

Grabbing 11 points towards the Mustang women's victory were Diamond, Bender and Taylor Guy and freshman Emily Imfeld who won the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:35.68) – nearly a full two seconds ahead of Pacific's foursome.

On the men's side, sophomore Pearu Pold raced to a pair of event wins in both the 500-yard freestyle (4:36.77) and 1,000-yard freestyle (9:36.64), which earned 18 points towards Cal Poly's winning score.

Sophomore Zach Cootes picked up two individual victories in the 200-yard IM (1:54.78) and 200-yard butterfly (1:52.80) and freshman Dominic Dalpiaz raced to wins in both the 50-yard freestyle (20.96) and 100 free (45.50), with each success earning nine points toward the overall score.

Cootes joined junior Caleb Davies and freshmen Archie Mitchell and Dominic Dalpiaz on a 200-yard medley relay victory (1:33.36) to deliver 11 points towards the Cal Poly men's triumph.

NEXT UP: The Cal Poly diving program travels south to take part in the three-day Bruin Diving Invitational hosted by UCLA at the Spieker Aquatics Center from Thursday, Jan. 14 through Saturday, Jan. 16.

The Mustang swim program hosts UC Santa Cruz at 11 a.m. Saturday and will celebrate Senior Day at the Anderson Aquatic Center.
