Cal Poly Tied for Third After Two Rounds of Play in Harbottle Invitational

TACOMA, Wash. – Desiree Gillaspy and Sophie Bergland are in the top 20 and Cal Poly is tied for third place entering Tuesday's final round of the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational hosted by Seattle University at the Tacoma Country Club in Tacoma, Wash.

Gillaspy (pictured at right) carded rounds of 77 and 72 for a five-over-par 149 total and sixth place while Bergland posted a 77 and 75 for an eight-over-par 152 and 16th place.

Coach Sofie Aagaard's Mustangs recorded four-person totals of 304 in the morning round and 306 in the afternoon round and shares third place with Cal State Fullerton at 610.

Washington leads with a four-over-par 580 total, followed by Idaho at 604. There are 16 teams in the two-day, 54-hole tournament.

Cal Poly's other scoring golfers are Jamie Harada, tied for 23rd place with a 74 and 80; Madison Hirsch with a 76 and 79 for a tie for 27th place; and Sadie Strain with a pair of 80s for a 53rd-place tie.

Individual leader after 36 holes is Julianne Alvarez of Washington with a 72 and 71 for a one-under-par 143 total on the 6,086-yard, par-72 course. Ying Luo of Washington is three strokes back after a 72 and 74 while two other Washington golfers – Sarah Rhee and Charlotte Thomas -- share third place at 147.

Final round is set for an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start Tuesday.
