Flood, Hansen Goals Lead Green to 2-0 Win in Intrasquad Scrimmage

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — A goal in each half lifted the Green side to a 2-0 win over the Gold team in the Cal Poly women's soccer intrasquad scrimmage at Alex G. Spanos Stadium on Saturday evening.

Mustang senior forward McKenzie Flood tallied the first goal in the 10th minute.

Flood started the go-ahead sequence by finding freshman Grace Park for a close-range shot that senior goalkeeper Brittney Viboch saved, but Flood corralled the rebound and converted the second chance.

Flood also placed another shot on goal in the 22nd minute with a header, but Viboch was there for another save.

The scrimmage featured two 30-minute halves.

Sophomore starting goalkeeper Sophia Brown helped the Green prevail, while senior Domenique Banta came in for the second half between the posts for the Gold, as Viboch moved to outside back (coming forward to take a shot in the 46th minute).

Senior midfielder Emily Hansen then scored the second goal, shooting into the right side of the netting from the middle of the penalty area in the 50th minute.

Other Green shots on the night came from Heather Huene (4'), Kelly Kessloff (5') and Jordan Patane (38' and 43'). Meanwhile Georgina Stiegeler (13' and 26') and Danielle Anderson (56') also attempted shots, and Stephanie Magellan took a squad-best four corner kicks for the Gold.

After visiting Westmont for a 1 p.m. exhibition Friday, Aug. 11, the Mustangs will return to host Fresno State for the final exhibition of the preseason at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13.

The exhibition vs. the Bulldogs will be the first of several Youth Days at Spanos Stadium this fall, not only featuring free admission but 2017 schedule posters.

Cal Poly opens the regular season at Indiana on Aug. 18 for the Hoosier Challenge Cup.
