SAN LUIS OBISPO, California – The Cal Poly Women Swimming and Diving season wraps up their regular season with a trip to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Swimming and Diving Championship. The divers will be competing at the US Air Force Academy near Colorado Springs while the swimmers head to East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park.
Last year Cal Poly finished the championships in third place behind UC Santa Barbara, who came in second, and UC Davis, who won the championships.
Senior Lacey Buck is looking to repeat her win from 2011 in the 1650 yard freestyle. She is also looking to add wins this year in the 500 yard freestyle and the 200 yard butterfly. Buck has had an outstanding senior season.
Another senior looking to make an impact at the championships is Gloria Benefield. She will be competing in both the 100 yard and 200 yard backstroke as well as the 200 yard butterfly. Benefield has achieved the NCAA "B" standard in both the 100 and 200 yard backstroke this season.
Junior Angie Haven is looking to touch the wall first in several events. She is seeking to excel in the 100 yard and 200 yard breaststroke as well as the 200 yard individual medley.
Fellow junior, Katrina Anderson, is hoping to find her success in the 200 yard backstroke or the 200 yard individual medley.
This will be the first trip to the championships for freshman Belen Enguidanos. She has had a solid freshman season.
The MPSF Diving Championship is February 16-18, 2012. The MPSF Swimming Championship is February 15-18, 2012.
The NCAA Diving Championships take place March 8-10, 2012 in Colorado Springs. The NCAA Swimming Championships will be March 15-17, 2012 in Auburn, AL.
