USC Defeats Cal Poly in Men's Non-Conference Dual Meet

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Jimmy Deiparine, Shannon Fong and Mickey Mackle won individual events as the Cal Poly men's swimming and diving team officially opened its 2014-15 season and christened its new scoreboard in a dual meet against USC on Friday night at Anderson Aquatic Center.

The visiting Trojans won the meet, 152-125, capturing first place in 10 of the 16 events.

A new $100,000 scoreboard (pictured at right) was on display for the first time Friday night. A total of 10 donors, many of them parents of current student-athletes, contributed to the project.

Deiparine won the 100-yard breaststroke in 56.24 seconds, while Fong touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly with a time of 51.47. Fong also placed third in the 200 fly at 1:55.60.

Mackle placed first in the 200 individual medley (1:54.21) and also finished second in the 200 fly (1:55.57) and fourth in the 200 breast (2:06.25).

Brady Shutt won both diving events, and the Mustang foursome of Caleb Davies, Jack Jenner, John Hornacek and Justin deDianous claimed the 200 freestyle relay in 1 minute, 26.78 seconds.

Jenner also placed second in the 100 free (47.30) while Paolo Stanchi finished second in the 200 IM (1:54.30) and third in both the 100 back (52.30) and 200 back (1:53.36).

Coach Tom Milich's Mustangs return to action Saturday, Nov. 1, with men's and women's dual meets at UC Santa Barbara.
