Gold Outlasts Green, 130-124 During Intrasquad Meet


SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Gold side outlasted the Green, 130-124 during the Cal Poly swimming and diving program's annual intrasquad meet Saturday afternoon at the Anderson Aquatic Center. Individually, Cal Poly sophomore Bonnie Diamond captured a trio of events for the Gold, including the women's 1,000-yard freestyle (with a time of 10:21.32), 200-yard free (1:52.78) and the 500-yard free (5:02.52).

The Gold also swept both the men's and women's 200-yard medley relay, including a 1:33.07 mark by the quartet of junior Caleb Davies (pictured), sophomore Zach Cootes and freshmen Brian Whittington and Max Emerick. On the women's side, the Gold foursome of senior Allison de Peralta, junior Dani Orlandi, sophomore Sage Speak and freshman Elle Inscore recorded a meet-best 200-yard medley time of 1:46.51.

Whittington recorded two individual event wins – in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.09) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:05.88) – for the Gold team. Sophomore Zach Cootes collected a pair of wins in the fly events for the Gold, including the 100-yard fly (50.60) and 200 fly (1:53.45) on the men's side.

Cal Poly senior Mickey Mackle led the Green on Saturday afternoon, winning three events on the men's side including the 100-yard backstroke (with a time of 52.57), 200-yard IM (1:53.56) and 200-yard backstroke (1:54.46). Mustang sophomore Pearu Pold also had a successful showing for the Green, finishing first during a pair of events including the 1,000-yard freestyle (with a mark of 9:33.70) and 500 free (4:36.56).

Cal Poly junior Jack Jenner from the men's side and sophomore Sage Speak from the women's both had fantastic afternoons for the Gold, as Jenner recorded meet-best showings in both the 100-yard free (46.72) and 200-yard free (1:42.25), while Speak finished with two event wins, including the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.67) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:19.36).

While the Gold recorded a better overall score on Saturday, it was the Green side who swept the freestyle relay events. During the 200-yard free relay on the men's side, a trio of freshman (Dominic Dalpiaz, Hayden Hemmens and Dominik Folkner) alongside sophomore Nolan Newland recorded an afternoon-best time of 1:26.13. On the women's side, the foursome of senior Taylor Guy, sophomore Elise Goetzl and freshmen Emily Imfeld and Eliza Quah sped to a meet-best mark of 1:37.95.

On the diving side of the meet, sophomore Lauren Pierce collected a finals score of 1.00 for the Gold team.

The Gold captured wins in both the 50-yard free events on Saturday, including junior Dani Orlandi (24.31) from the women's side and junior Caleb Davies (21.36) from the men's side.

Imfeld secured the best time in the 100-yard free (53.34) on the Green, de Peralta etched a win for the Gold during the 100-yard backstroke (58.83) and Guy took first in the 100-yard fly (56.81) for the Green.

Cal Poly senior Belen Enguidanos took home the best time on the women's side during the 200-yard fly (2:04.46) for the Gold side, while freshman Noelle Kipp won the 200-yard IM (2:10.77) for the Green.
