Cal Poly Competes at AT&T Winter National Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. – Led by sophomore Nolan Newland's 400 freestyle time of 4:01.73, the Cal Poly swimming program opened up competition among the nation's finest on the first day of the 2015 AT&T Winter National Championships at the Weyerhauser King County Aquatic Center.

The three-day championship features such prolific athletes as Michael Phelps on the men's side and Missy Franklin on the women's side.

Newland's mark earned him an overall finish of 46th in the 400 free during the morning session, while freshman Archie Mitchell earned 54th with a 4:03.60 mark in the same event. Cal Poly junior Austin Cunniff placed 60th in the 400 free with a time of 4:05.03.

In the 200 medley, sophomore Zach Cootes delivered a 61st-place finish with a mark of 2:09.65.

Cal Poly will compete in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 free, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke on Friday.
