Cal Poly’s Pierce Competes at NCAA Zone E Diving Championships


FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Cal Poly sophomore Lauren Pierce took part in the three-day NCAA Zone E Diving Championships hosted by Northern Arizona, producing a 52nd-place finish during Monday's preliminary round in the women's 1-meter Championship with an aggregate score of 214.35.

Pierce followed that up with a 38th-place showing in the 3-meter Championship on Tuesday, earning an overall six-dive score of 242.55 during the preliminary round. Neither of Pierce's preliminary scores were enough to advance her to the event championships.

The University of Nevada swept both the 1- and 3-meter women's championships, with Sharae Zheng taking first overall on the 3-meter board after a preliminary score of 333.35 and totaling 698 points overall. On the 1-meter board, Krysta Palmer used an overall score of 654.80 (318.55) to distance herself from the rest of the field in capturing first.

Palmer also won the women's platform with an overall score of 638.15 to sweep the trio of championships for the University of Nevada.

A total of 98 men's and women's divers representing 25 universities from across the nation competed at the three-day championship.
