Cal Poly Swimming and Diving Set to Make 2017 Debut

SAN LUIS OBISPO – The Cal Poly swimming and diving team will split this weekend, as the swimmers will be hosting Pacific and the divers will head down south to participate in the Bruin Diving Invitational. 

Joining the Mustangs at the invitational will be, Azusa Pacific, No. 2 Cal, Fresno State, New Mexico, San Diego State, No. 22 UCLA, No. 8 USC and Utah. 

In the Mustangs' last meet against Pacific, both the men and women out-swam the Tigers, as the men won 156-103 and the women won 169-93. 

Zachary Cootes and Sage Speak both set their career highs in their last meet at the A3 Performance Invitational. With a time of 1:02.82 in the 100-y breast, Speak is now second in Cal Poly's all-time record. Cootes now holds down the No. 1 spot for Cal Poly's all-time record in the 200-yard fly after finishing in 1:47.53. 

The Mustang divers will kick off the weekend on Friday morning, starting with the women's 3-meter and the men's 1-meter. The invitational will continue on Saturday and conclude on Sunday. 

The swimmers will take on Pacific on Saturday at 11 a.m.  at the Anderson Aquatic Center.
