Krieghoff Ties School Record as Cal Poly Beats Fresno State 6-1

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Junior forward Elise Krieghoff tied a school record with five goals as Cal Poly scored three times in each half and breezed to a 6-1 victory over Fresno State in a non-conference women's soccer match Friday night in Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

Krieghoff (pictured at right), who scored three goals in Cal Poly's first seven matches this season, tallied goals in the 11th, 17th and 38th minutes to give the Mustangs a 3-0 halftime advantage and added two more goals at the 54th and 57th minutes.

Megan Abutin scored Cal Poly's other goal on a penalty kick seven minutes into the second half.

With the win, Cal Poly evened its record at 4-4-0.

With eight goals this season and a school-record 21 goals as a sophomore a year ago, Krieghoff now has 40 career goals, five shy of the school mark held by Kolleen Kassis from 1992-95.

Krieghoff tied the single-game record of five goals set by Wendy Jones against Vanguard in 1993.

Fresno State avoided a shutout when Jaycee Bingham broke away on the right side and fired a 15-foot shot into the right side of the net with eight minutes remaining.

Mustang goalkeeper Alyssa Giannetti recorded four saves in 64 minutes of duty while Megan Heddinger tallied one save. Domenique Banta saved three shots for Fresno State.

Abutin recorded a pair of Cal Poly assists while Sara Lancaster and Lydia Anderson each had one.

Cal Poly returns to action Sunday at No. 4 Stanford. The 3:30 p.m. match will be televised by Pac-12 Networks.
